Cat Chronicles

The neighbors cat will stop at nothing to taunt our kids! Not only does she dance around the fence line waving her tail about to rile up the kids but she will poke her head through the fence at them and then of course swat at them, sit on top of the compost bin at the corner of the gate and stare upside down from it at them, sit on top of the fence and hiss at them and finally sit in a tree at the fence line and flaunt her presence. She is the devil and Star will not tolerate her shit. Let's face it. She's a badass. (sort of)

Yesterday Star climbed the chain link fence and almost made it over to teach that cat a lesson. This morning she found a small gap in the chain link and got her head stuck in it trying to escape our yard. She started screaming (you never want to hear a Basenji scream) until I freed her. Of course that didn't stop her from trying to attack the cat. Luckily I was able to catch her and trap her inside the house.

This cat will not survive if Star doesn't find a new home soon and I'm sure Star will end up in the ER as well. It's not like the cat is declawed. (not that it should be)

Another cattastic day at the Vela Villa.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

That's the title of the book I'm reading for bookclub this week but it's also a good representation of our household. Two dogs and a husband in a bed is too many. Star is currently scratching at the back door dying to go outside and eat the boys food and then attempt to escape into the neighbors yard to taunt their dogs. It never ends. I guess I'd be bored without them. Then there's the fact that I adore the resident dogs and the foster, I think I'm just grumpy. Today is the last day of my 12 day vacation.

I need to plan the meals for the week so I can grocery shop at some point today, finish this book and I'd like to watch Bolt. I need to be entertained.

I need less mosquito bites too!

The List

There's a growing list of things to do this week while I'm on staycation. Cleaning, organizing, time consuming cooking, reading, movies and most importantly, BRAT coordinator work.

This week I hope to get Star's info on the website so we can start searching for her forever home. She's opening up more and more and I fall for her as each day passes. If I don't find her new home soon I could lose fostering 101. How can you NOT love this face?

For now, some bad tv and a kid friendly birthday dinner at Buca di Beppo for my sister. I actually like this place for really boring type Italian food. If I cannot have Vino Vino then I will have super cheesy white pasta instead. Thanks for being born Annie.

3rd time is not always a charm

It's becoming clear that I'm not only getting older but that my beloved family is too. So many ill and fighting for their life and this year and now three grandparents have passed. Both of my grandfathers and now Chris' grandmother. We both only have our maternal grandmothers living. People who played such an important role instilling goodwill and teaching in love are no longer. A lot of people don't have the profound childhood experiences that Chris and I both had. A family that stayed together (some how) and strived to love unconditionally (some more successful than others). Family has always been important and it's staring me in the face now. I will not tolerate surrounding myself with people who won't appreciate and respect me, because that's what I was taught. I deserve that and so does everyone else. So thank you grandpa and grandma for teaching such an important lesson. We will always love and cherish the time we had.
